CHILLAX

When we are relaxed, calm and open like a pool in a glade the quality of our inner nature stands out clearly. We have a keen and direct perception of ourselves and our interaction with everything that is going on around us. Our energy is well focused; we can think clearly, and we are able to plan and organize our thoughts effectively. We are self-assured: we know what we want to accomplish, what our obstacles are, and how to dissolve them. We work with ease, moving fluidly, in tune with our work rather than resisting its requirements, simply doing what needs to be done. Our work takes on a vital texture, alive with challenge and fulfillment, and the results of our actions reflect the relaxed quality we bring to them.

EQUILIBRIUM

Day 16:

Our journey– our practice is to harvest the ability to stay present, open, and balanced through all experiences and realms of life. With a solid foundation of daily meditation and yoga class penciled into your daily routine this should be easy. NOT. It isn’t, not for a devoted yogi or otherwise. We all suffer and the hindrances that we face are the same: desire, aversion, sleepiness, and doubt.  Add to that the feelings of happiness or sadness, frustration, anger, annoyance, joy, interest, excitement, restlessness, or fear and it may seem impossible to find any kind of balanced sensation.

So, what to do…

Sit down, settle back, stay open, and listen to the breath. Typical, yoga instructions, but why?

Breathing is a useful primary object because for the most part it is always present. *And we want to be in the present moment, not hung up on the past or worrying about the future. So one can always come back to the breath, settling into it, feeling it, noticing it. And when different mind states or objects of awareness arise, identify them and then let them pass away. When they are no longer predominant, return to the breath or to sensations in the body.

Use this tool during both meditation and your daily yoga practice to get the most out of each lesson!

YOGA FEST

Travel meditation for a train, bus, or in traffic gridlock:

Let the whole of your body go loose, relaxing any area of tension, and take some deep breaths. Accept that there is nothing you can do to get to your destination faster. Focus on your breathing and visualize any anxiety or worry simply floating away with each exhalation. Just let it go. Each time anxiety or worry tries to come back, bring your focus back to the breath and let go. You might even want to repeat the mantra PEACE with each exhalation.

ACTION
